Only a year ago, The Drums were still plowing away as a two piece group, comprised of front man Jonathan Pierce and Jacob Graham. In the months that followed, they recruited two new members and released their solid self-titled debut to critical acclaim. However, according to a statement released today on their website, one of the new members, guitarist Adam Kessler has left the band.

“There have been some questions as to recent events and we are sorry to say that Adam has left The Drums,” the statement said. “Jonny, Jacob and Connor are devastated and are keeping to themselves and with friends at this time. The band are currently on the road in America. Thank you for all of the support, it means a lot.”

The band did not elaborate on why Kessler left the group.

The news comes just a few days after the band set off on a North American tour, during which they will make a stop in Austin Sept. 25. Hopefully, they will be able to find a replacement soon and continue to do what they do best, making new wave inspired surf pop that is both catchy and timeless.
